EC3 LAUNCHES NEW SPOTLIGHT ON LOCAL BLACK ARTISTS WEBSITE

EC3 LAUNCHES NEW SPOTLIGHT ON LOCAL BLACK ARTISTS WEBSITE

In 2021, EC3 launched the Spotlight on Local Black Artists profile program. This is an ongoing effort by EC3 to profile professional artists of African descent living and working in Peterborough. This project offers information on a variety of local artists and aims to develop public knowledge and awareness of who they are, what they do, and how to connect with them.

As part of EC3’s 2023 Black History Month programming, we are launching the newly redesigned Spotlight on Local Black Artists page on the EC3 website. This page provides a database of artists profiled in the program, now with contact information, website details, and social media links. The page also has improved accessibility features and more readable artist profiles.

The page includes the six profiles EC3 has released so far, as well as two new ones: multidisciplinary artist Emem (Stephanie) John and spoken word poet Niambi Tree. Spotlight is an ongoing EC3 project, as we continue to reach out to local Black artists, continue to share these profiles on social media, and continue to add to this database. Participating artists are paid for their contributions.

We encourage everyone to take a look through the profiles, explore these artists’ work, follow them on social media, and, when you are next booking an event or seeking artists, remember this resource and include these artists in your programming.
