THE BIERK ART BURSARY PROGRAM IS BACK! Two $1,000 Bursaries for Local Arts Students

Peterborough, ON — The Electric City Culture Council (EC3) is pleased to announce the annual launch of the Bierk Art Bursary Program for Post-Secondary Studies in the Visual Arts, Media Arts, Architecture, and Design for Peterborough high school students completing Grade 12 in 2024, who plan to undertake post-secondary studies in visual arts, media arts, architecture, or design during the 2024-25 academic year.

The Bierk Art Bursary Program provides two bursaries of $1,000.00 each to graduating high school students in the City or County of Peterborough, including Curve Lake and Hiawatha First Nations, whose work demonstrates great promise (creativity, artistic merit) and who have a serious commitment to pursuing further studies at the post-secondary level in visual arts, media arts, architecture, or design.

Eligible students will have the opportunity to present their work to a virtual (Zoom) Selection Committee comprised of local arts professionals. The two successful candidates will be announced immediately in the media and celebrated at the next Mayor’s Luncheon for the Arts along with the Peterborough Arts Awards.

The Bierk Art Bursary Program was established to honour the lives and the work of Peterborough arts champions Liz Bierk and her husband, painter David Bierk.

“David and Liz Bierk were generous and dedicated arts supporters who believed whole-heartedly in the potential of local artists and the value of arts education.  As tuition costs continue to rise, this program provides crucial financial support to promising young artists.” — Su Ditta, EC3 Executive Director
