Media Release: SPARK Virtual Exhibits

For immediate release.

Along with many other Peterborough-area community arts events, the month-long SPARK Photo Festival scheduled for April has been postponed. While we all stay at home, the 35+ photography exhibits are on hold until we are safe, and ready to enjoy the Festival our community looks forward to each year.

For now, SPARK is continuing our celebration of photography, virtually! Our team has  procured outstanding submitted images from our Exhibitors and we’re posting Virtual Exhibits online at our website and on social media. Everyone can visit our gallery from the comfort of home.

The themed Juried Exhibit is always a highlight of the Festival with submissions from photographers across Ontario competing for the opportunity to have their work on display. This year’s theme is “Motion” and we had a record number of submissions – over 200 images – from 75 photographers. Our professional jury members, Wayne Eardley, Darcie Kennedy and Brian Tyson, had the challenging task of selecting the best of those entries. While we eagerly anticipate the announcement of the top award winners during the Festival, we’re delighted to share the 25 photos now! The images, which capture motion, have been curated into a Virtual Exhibit that’s available online at www.sparkphotofestival.org/exhibits, also on our Facebook page and on Instagram @sparkphotofestival. The images feature action shots of a wide array of subjects in motion, from skateboarders to dancers, from dogs running to owls in flight! It’s a wide-ranging and fascinating collection.

Our ode to Earth Day, featuring images from our Open Call Exhibitors, highlighting captures of earth, water, flora, fauna and forest, is online now, and will continue to be available until April 30th.

Stay tuned to our website and social media channels for more virtual exhibits that we are planning over the coming months. Next up the theme will be Connection.

We encourage SPARK fans to enjoy the talents of our photographers virtually while they stay at home and we all look forward to meeting art face-to-face soon.
